Nigel has been with the Sozo Foundation since we started ten years ago; he was one of our first Educentre students in 2011 when he was in Grade 8! It has been wonderful to walk alongside him to see his journey develop.

Nigel joined our Skills Development programme in 2017 to learn graphic design. He did so well that we offered him a position to become a graphic design facilitator and one of our Educentre Mentors the next year. In 2019 Sozo granted Nigel an opportunity to further develop his Graphic Design skills by completing a 3-month internship in England.

This year Nigel was instrumental in bringing the accredited coding course to our skills school portfolio. Nigel himself trained in the course during the evenings to be ahead of the students. Nigel says “When the Coding opportunity came, I doubted myself and my ability to do this. I had to step out of my comfort zone and challenge myself, this led me to become more confident in the field. Now Coding excites me and Iearning online at my own pace motivates me to do my best. No one is too busy in this world, it’s all about priorities. And life is a journey with problems to solve and lessons to learn but most of all experiences to enjoy with the right circle.”
