GENERAL EDUCATION DIPLOMA

ABOUT OUR GED PROGRAMME

We have recently introduced a General Education Diploma (GED) option for youth interested in completing their matric:

GED is a South African Grade 12, National Senior Certificate Equivalent; UK: A-Level; New Zealand: NCEA and the globally recognised International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.

We are providing unemployed youth who have not completed High School with the opportunity to complete their Senior Certificate and access employment opportunities where a Matric is a minimum requirement regardless of experience.

The GED exam is offered only at externally authorised independent testing centres and is internationally recognised. This accreditation and qualification will allow our students to enrol in courses at Colleges and Technical Universities starting at NQF Level 5.

THIS DIPLOMA IS A SELF-PACED, 100% ONLINE STUDY COURSE PREPARING THE STUDENT TO PASS 4 SUBJECTS

GED STORY OF HOPE

“I grew up in Vrygrond and moved to Retreat when I was six years old. Life before coming to The Sozo Foundation was very difficult for me. Due to family problems and the teacher’s lack of support and assistance, I had to leave school in the second term of Grade 12. After leaving school, I worked for a short while for my brother’s carpentry business.

This was a challenging time in my life. I felt depressed with feelings of anxiety. I felt as if my life had no purpose. When I first arrived at the Sozo Foundation, I was a quiet and introverted student. After I started building relationships with the staff and students at Sozo, I started warming up and coming out of my shell.

At first, I felt intimidated about having to do mathematics, because I didn’t do that at school. I had a great experience at Sozo, I didn’t only learn academic skills but also grew emotionally. I started being of assistance to my fellow classmates, where I would help in teaching them subjects they don’t understand. After passing all my subjects and graduating from the GED program, I started a learnership with Private Wealth Consult and SETA doing Financial advisory and intermediary services.

My personal goals would be to get my drivers license and find employment. My ideal job would be to work for Law Enforcement. I would encourage potential students to join the Sozo Foundation, remembering that there is always hope in life. I see Sozo as a place of HOPE.” – Benjamin Louw GED Graduate 2021

SECOND CHANCE

Our Second Chance programme assists students who would like to retake their matric exams. 5 Students were part of our pilot group in 2022 and with the academic support received, 4 out of the 5 students passed and improved their results. Currently we are supporting 17 youth who are rewriting exams in 2023.

BRIDGING SCHOOL

Our Bridging Academy is aimed at providing youth who are at the cusp of meeting the GED entrance requirements with an opportunity to bridge key foundational gaps in Maths, English, and Computer Literacy. We are journeying with 6 youth who form part of the bridging academy pilot.
