Where did you hear about Sozo – where did your journey begin: Dreams do come true.
Ethan’s dream has always been to become a pastry chef. After spending a year a home, Ethan found out about Sozo on Social Media. “I saw these artesian baking classes and knew I had to apply as it aligned with what I wanted to be one day”.
What were you doing before Sozo? A life without purpose.
Before Sozo, Ethan describes himself as a person without purpose, inspiration or motivation. “I was just laying at home every day or standing on the street corner. I was depressed. I was emotional”. Ethan was one of many Vrygrond Youth who fill the street curbs with silent silhouettes.
Ethan is proof that meaningful employment leads to a sense of purpose. Having a job can provide individuals with a sense of purpose and direction. Knowing that one is contributing to society and earning a living can instill a sense of accomplishment and Ethan has a lot to be proud of.
How has this programme changed your life: Where passion meets purpose
After Graduation, Ethan was employed at a local bakery. Ethna expressed that “I would not have been able to get the job without the skills gained at Sozo”.
Ethan had no idea that his journey of personal and professional growth would bring him right back to where it all started. Recently, Ethan joined Sozo’s team, taking on the role of a cleaner in the same building he trained in. “I am glad I took the opportunity to be here. I have met all these loving people, they took me in and treated me as their own child. The people here are loving, caring and they treat me great [here]”. It’s evident that Ethan felt a deep sense of belonging and connection to the team and organisation.
Ethan’s story highlights that once you become part of the Sozo ecosystem, there are many opportunities for growth, interaction and movement.
Beneficiaries who come back to work at Sozo are a testament to the quality of training and professionalism our students have. It also reflects the rewarding and fulfilling nature of the programme, enticing beneficiaries to become permanent members of our organisation
